San Diego 2011

We had the best time in California!
We stayed in a condo in Mission Beach, San Diego.
The weather was PERFECT and there was so much to do
and see that the week just flew by.
We spent a lot of time at the beach (our condo was directly in the middle
between the ocean and the bay, one block in both directions).
We took long bike rides along the boardwalk, ate breakfast overlooking the beach,
played some intense games of Spades in the evenings,
and took some phenominal road trips including going to a Padres game,
we had an awesome meal in the dowtown Gas-Lamp District,
and enjoyed epic trips to Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.
I took about a million pictures, which is why it has taken me
so long to get the blog updated...
Thanks for your patience and enjoy!

Maer's first glance of the ocean!
 She likes it. :-)

  Day 1 (Sunday) - BEACH!
Maer and the boys, playing in the sand.

 Look out Ariel!
Later that day, mom's friends threw her a surprise 60th party on the bay.
 Playing in the bay...

 Monday: More beach!!

Looking good Nana!

Monday night at the Padres game.

Tuesday - SEA WORLD!
Sea World was just as I remembered it about 20 something years ago
(holy cow I am getting old).  The shows were outstanding,
and the animals were sooo talented and just very, very cool.
First we saw the Polar Bears and Walruses.

The Walrus came right up to Maeryn and just about knocked her over!
There was a nice play area for the kiddos...
And then... SHAMOON! (Otherwise known as Shamu). :-)
Maeryn loved the Shamu show, but was not quite as fond
of the giant killer whales up close.

 The Dolphin Show

At lunch we were attacked by a palm tree...
The Sea Lion show was very cute!
Later that night we rented some cruisers and checked out the boardwalk.

Maeryn got to ride too!

Wednesday - Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, CA

Daddy's girl!
Maeryn, learning how to squirt the water gun at Uncle Drew.
She got him!

Thursday: San Diego Zoo
There is no place on Earth like the San Diego Zoo!
We were really lucky the day we went because we got to see
some truely amazing sights...  The baby tiger cubs were out
right when we got there which was a very rare occurance.
There was a baby hippo snuggling with her mommy, we got to see
a dog playing with a cheetah and the giraffes eating an afternoon snack,
the gorrillas were HUGE, the orangutans were playful,
and obviously the pandas and koalas were just awesome to see!
AND "Maeryn was a Zoo Angel..."  ;-)

After the zoo went took a little road trip over the bridge
to see Coronado Island. Then we headed in to down town San Diego,
saw the air craft carrier and other ships along the water
and went to the Gas-Lamp District for dinner.

Friday - LAST DAY :(
So what did we do??  ...The Beach!
Maeryn and Mal enjoying their last chance to play in the sand.
Maer and Drew broke out in to an impromptu beach-dance party!

 So Cute!

We had a GREAT time in San Diego!
Thank you Nana and Bob for having the idea and making it happen,
we can't wait for the next big family trip!
